Strategy Consultant mock interview

Cases skew toward market entry, competitive response and long-horizon bets. Expect fewer operational numbers and more pressure on the logic connecting your evidence to your recommendation.

Consulting loops are dominated by the case. Structure first, arithmetic that holds up under scrutiny, and a recommendation stated crisply rather than hedged.

The interviewer will push back regardless of whether you are right. Holding a position with reasons, or updating it cleanly, both score — freezing does not.

The rounds you can practise

Each round is run by the interviewer built for it, with its own scoring axes — not one generic interviewer asked to change subject.

Strategy Consultant interview questions

Six you can expect, in the register interviewers actually use. Answer them out loud before you read the next section — reading a question and answering one are different skills, and only the second is marked.

  1. Should this client enter this market?
  2. A competitor just cut prices 30%. What do you advise?
  3. How do you evaluate a bet whose payoff is ten years out?
  4. What would have to be true for this strategy to work?
  5. How do you advise when the data simply does not exist?
  6. What is the strongest argument against your own recommendation?

The same question, answered badly and well

The gap between these two is most of your score, and it is easier to see than to be told.

What would have to be true for this strategy to work?

What loses marks

Restating the benefits of the strategy. It converts a test of logic into a pitch.

What scores

Name the two or three load-bearing assumptions, say which is most fragile, and state how you would test that one cheaply before committing. This question is the centre of strategy interviews and it is asking you to attack your own case.

Why Strategy Consultant candidates get cut

The post-mortem nobody sends you. These are specific to this loop rather than general interview advice.

Operational detail where the question was about direction.
Logic that does not connect the evidence to the recommendation — a gap the interviewer will find.
No answer on what would falsify your view.

Start with a general round

For Strategy Consultant, a general round runs with Simone structured cases — framework, math, and a crisp recommendation. It is the fastest way to find out which round you actually need to work on. The first session is free.
