AMC Clinical · station practice

Practise the AMC Clinical out loud, with a patient who answers.

Two minutes to read the stem, eight minutes with a simulated patient or parent, and an examiner who gives you findings only when you ask for them. Then the station rated the way the AMC rates it: a seven-point global rating, 4 or more to pass, written to Australian practice.

History, described examination, diagnostic formulation, and counselling stations in adult medicine, surgery, women's health, child health and mental health — written fresh for practice to current Australian guidelines, never recalls.

How each station is rated

Three areas and a global rating, each out of 7, then our estimate: likely pass (5 and above), borderline pass (4, the AMC's line) or likely fail. Double-barrelled questions, textbook lists of differentials, non-specific plans and “refer to a specialist” cost marks, as they do with AMC examiners.

History and examination
Did they take a focused history (one question at a time, no double-barrelled questions) or describe a focused, relevant examination — asking for the specific findings they needed, in a sensible order, and not describing irrelevant systems? Did they cover the tasks on the stem within the suggested times?
Diagnosis and management
Did they reach a specific, safe working diagnosis with a short, prioritised differential (not a textbook list), name specific investigations and drugs, and give a concrete management plan in line with Australian practice (eTG, RACGP, the Australian Immunisation Handbook, state law) — not just 'refer to a specialist'?
Approach to the patient and counselling
Did they introduce themselves, build rapport, use plain language without euphemisms or unexplained jargon, respond to the patient's concerns, check understanding, involve the patient in decisions and show cultural safety, and stay professional and ethical — consent, confidentiality, mandatory reporting where it applies?

Questions

How is the AMC Clinical Examination marked?

Each station has key steps and three to five domains rated on a seven-point scale, but the examiner's seven-point global rating alone decides the station: 4 or more passes. Two of the sixteen assessed stations are pilots, and you pass with 9 or more of the 14 that count. Here each station gets three area ratings and a global rating out of 7, and the result is our estimate from the global rating.

How long is each station?

Two minutes to read the stem and its tasks, then eight minutes. Practice stations here run the same way, one at a time, with the tasks and their suggested timings on screen.

Can I practise examination stations?

Yes, the way the AMC's online exam runs them: you describe the examination and ask the examiner for the findings you need, and the examiner gives only what you specifically asked for. Hands-on technique cannot be judged by voice and is not marked here.

Is this affiliated with the AMC?

No. MockLive is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Australian Medical Council. The stations are written for practice, never recalls, and the ratings are an AI examiner's estimate — not an AMC result, and not medical advice.

Do I need a separate pass for AMC and PLAB 2?

No. One clinical stations pass covers both. Your first station is free, the full eight minutes.
