The four kinds of question, and what they test

Motivation

Why this job, why this company. They are checking you chose them on purpose and know what the job is.

Behavioural

Tell me about a time when… They want one real story with what you did and what happened, not a description of how you usually work.

Role-specific

The skills and judgement this job turns on. Here a posting helps: the generator follows the tools and responsibilities it names.

Situational

What would you do if… They are listening for how you think: the trade-off you see, and who you would involve.

Questions by role

Guides to the interview for each of these roles: the rounds, what each one is judged on, and the questions they ask.

Questions people ask

How does the interview question generator work?

It reads the job title and, if you paste it, the job description, then writes the ten questions an interviewer for that job is most likely to ask: one on motivation, three behavioural, four specific to the role and two situational. Each comes with a line on what the interviewer is really checking.

Is it free?

Yes. You can generate five question sets a day without an account, and twenty with a free account. Nothing you paste is stored.

Will these be the exact questions I get?

No tool can promise that. These are the questions an interviewer for this job is most likely to ask, and the patterns behind them. If you can answer these well out loud, the real ones rarely catch you out.

How should I prepare once I have the questions?

Answer them out loud, not in your head. Behavioural questions want a specific story: the situation, what you did, and the result, with a number if you have one. Then practise with someone who follows up, which is what the free mock interview on MockLive does.

Practise them with an interviewer who listens

Pick your role and an interviewer, then answer out loud. It follows up on what you actually say and scores the answers, with every one replayable. Your first interview is free.
