Best AI IELTS Speaking practice tools in 2026

We make MockLive AI, one of the tools on this list. Every fact about the other tools comes from their own websites, checked on 3 October 2026, and we say where another tool is the better choice.

The short answer

  • Booked your test with the British Council? Start with IELTS Ready Premium. It's free with your booking and includes 40 mock tests with AI feedback across all four skills.
  • Want to talk to an examiner who listens and follows up, like the real Speaking test? Only a few tools do this: TalkDrill, CueRise (formerly BandLift, iPhone only) and MockLive AI.
  • Mainly working on pronunciation? ELSA Speak is the specialist. It doesn't score the IELTS criteria, but its sound-by-sound feedback is very good.

When each one is the right choice

You've booked with the British Council

Use IELTS Ready Premium first. It's free and it's official.

Daily speaking time on a small budget

TalkDrill's monthly plans are the cheapest way to talk to an examiner-style AI every day.

You're on iPhone and want an app

CueRise runs a full spoken mock with four criterion bands.

The full test, not just Speaking, and no subscription

MockLive AI runs complete IELTS mocks (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) on screens modelled on IELTS on computer. A pass is one payment that lasts a year.

Your accent is what's holding you back

ELSA Speak.

What no AI tool can do

None of these gives an official IELTS score. Every AI band is an estimate. Use them to find what to fix, then check your level with an official practice test before you book.

Common questions

Is there a free AI IELTS Speaking mock test?

Yes. British Council IELTS Ready gives free mocks with AI feedback (more if you book with them), and MockLive AI gives one full Speaking test free.

Which AI tools actually talk to you like an IELTS examiner?

On the products' own descriptions: TalkDrill, CueRise (iPhone) and MockLive AI. SmallTalk2Me and IELTS Pulse score a recording instead.

Are AI IELTS band scores accurate?

They're estimates. SmallTalk2Me's own FAQ says results "will be close, but not guaranteed to match exactly", and that's true of every tool here, including ours.
