Describe an achievement you are proud of.
You should say
- what you achieved
- when it happened
- how you managed it
- and explain why you are proud of it
pull it off
against the odds
I surprised myself
a proud moment
it meant a lot to
I don't say that lightly
选和“something difficult you succeeded at”一样的故事,讲得一模一样。
The thing I'm proudest of is fairly unglamorous: I got my father to stop smoking, after about twenty years of the whole family failing to. What worked wasn't argument. We'd all tried that and it had entrenched him — the more it was raised the more it became a thing he was defending rather than a habit he had. What I did, more or less by accident, was stop mentioning it and instead ask him to come walking with me on Sunday mornings, which he agreed to because it wasn't about smoking. After a few months he was noticeably fitter and he brought it up himself, which was the first time in two decades it had come from his side. He stopped about four months later. He's been off them three years now. I'm proud of it partly for the obvious reason and partly because it taught me that people almost never change under pressure from the people who love them, which is counterintuitive and, I think, true.
- 关于来自亲人的压力的洞见真正反直觉,也直接回答了“why you are proud of it”。
- “A thing he was defending rather than a habit he had”
- how societies recognise achievement
- whether people should be praised for effort or results
- how ideas of success vary between cultures
