Describe a crowded place you have been to.
You should say
- where it was
- when you went there
- why there were so many people
- and explain how you felt about being there
packed
shoulder to shoulder
a sea of people
jostling
claustrophobic
at a standstill
换四种方式说“there were many people”。
The most crowded place I go regularly is the fish market near the harbour on a Sunday morning. It opens at six and by seven it's essentially impassable — you don't walk through it so much as get carried. The noise is the thing people notice first. There's shouting in three languages, ice being tipped out of crates, and everyone bargaining at once, so you have to lean in to hear anyone. I go about once a month with my father, who has been buying from the same two stalls for thirty years and refuses to consider a third. What's interesting is that it works. It looks like chaos and there's clearly an order underneath it — people know where to stand, the sellers know who's next even when four people are shouting. I don't love crowds generally. I'd avoid a crowded train or a crowded bar. But this one I actively enjoy, probably because there's a purpose to it and everyone's there for the same reason.
- “You don't walk through it so much as get carried”
- why cities are becoming more crowded
- how crowding affects people's behaviour
- what governments can do about overcrowding
Describe a place you like to spend your free time.
Describe a quiet place you like to go to.
Describe a city you have visited.
Describe a building you find interesting.
Describe a park or garden you like.
Describe a café or restaurant you like going to.
