  1. What do you do?
  2. Why did you choose that job?
  3. What do you like most about your work?
  4. Is there anything you dislike about it?
  5. Do you prefer working alone or with other people?
  6. What time do you usually start work?
  7. Would you like to change your job in the future?
  8. Is your job stressful?
  9. What skills do you need to do it well?
  10. Do many people in your country do the same kind of work?

“I'm an analyst”对考官毫无意义;“I look at where our customers drop off and tell the product team why”回答的是同一件事,却有了实际内容。
  • 为“what do you like”这个问题准备一个具体的小细节。

I'm based in

用于说明地点,比“I work in the city of”更自然

it involves

a nine-to-five

no two days are the same

it can be full-on

move into

“I'd like to move into management”——

What do you do?

I work as a data analyst for a retail company, which in practice means I spend most of my time working out why customers abandon their baskets and then telling the product team what I found. It's less glamorous than it sounds — a lot of it is cleaning spreadsheets. But I like that the answers are usually surprising.

Why did you choose that job?

Honestly, slightly by accident. I studied economics and assumed I'd end up in banking, then I did a summer project that involved a lot of data and realised I enjoyed it far more than the theory. So it was less a decision than noticing what I kept gravitating towards.

Is your job stressful?

It comes in waves. Most weeks are fine, and then there's a reporting deadline at month end where everyone wants their numbers at once and it becomes quite intense for about three days. I've learned to protect the first week of the month, which helps more than any amount of time management advice.
