  1. Do you read much?
  2. What kind of books do you enjoy?
  3. Do you prefer paper books or reading on a screen?
  4. Did you read a lot as a child?
  5. When do you usually find time to read?
  6. Do you read newspapers or news online?
  7. Have you read anything interesting recently?
  8. Do people in your country read as much as they used to?
  9. Do you ever reread books?
  10. Would you like to read more?

  • 「Did you read as a child」は過去形と「used to」の出番です。

an avid reader

または正直な否定形の「I'm not much of a reader」

get through

「I get through two a month」

a page-turner

次の質問は必ず「what have you read recently」です。正直な「I read very little, mostly news on my phone」のほうが安全で、裏付けのない作り話より流暢に話せます。

Do you read a lot?

More than I did, because of my commute. I get about fifty minutes each way where there's nothing else I can usefully do, and that's turned into two or three books a month without any deliberate effort. It's the only habit I have that I didn't have to build.

What kind of books do you enjoy?

Mostly novels, and increasingly ones where not much happens. I used to need a plot and now I'd rather spend three hundred pages inside somebody's head. I read some history as well, though I've noticed I buy far more of it than I finish.

Do you prefer physical books or e-books?

Physical, though I accept that's partly sentimentality. I read faster on paper and I remember where things were on the page, which I don't get from a screen. I use an e-reader for travel purely because of weight, and I always slightly resent it.
