Describe something you made yourself.
You should say
- what it was
- how you made it
- how long it took
- and explain how you felt when it was finished
from scratch
trial and error
fiddly
it came out better than I expected
get the hang of it
a labour of love
表示顺序的语言——“first”“once that was done”“at that point”——体现的是连贯性,而连贯性是评分标准之一。
The thing I've made that I'm most pleased with is a bookshelf, which I built about three years ago having never built anything before. It's not good, strictly speaking. One side is very slightly out of true and I know exactly which corner to look at, though visitors never notice. I made it because the alcove in my flat was an awkward width and nothing sold in shops fitted it, so it was that or leave the space empty. The process was much harder than I'd expected. I ruined two lengths of timber learning that measuring twice is advice rather than a saying, and there was an evening where I genuinely considered giving up. What I got out of it wasn't really a bookshelf. It was finding out that the barrier to making things is mostly a willingness to produce something bad on the way. I've made two more since and they're both better, which is the only evidence I need.
- “Measuring twice is advice rather than a saying”
- why handmade things appeal to people
- whether practical skills are being lost
- the value of creative hobbies
Describe a piece of technology you find useful.
Describe a gift you received that you liked.
Describe something you bought recently that you are happy with.
Describe an item of clothing you like to wear.
Describe a photograph you like.
Describe an app on your phone that you use often.
