- How has the world of work changed in recent years?
- Do people change jobs more often than they used to?
- Is job satisfaction more important than a high salary?
- Should employers be responsible for their staff's wellbeing?
- Will working from home continue to be common?
- Why are some important jobs poorly paid?
- Is it harder for young people to find work now?
- Do people retire too early or too late?
- 在预测类问题上正确使用将来表达——用“is likely to”、“I'd expect”、“it may well”,而不是光秃秃的“will”。
there's been a shift towards
it's likely to
by and large
that said
increasingly
job security
“People change jobs often”和“people change jobs more often than they used to”回答的是不同的问题。
Do you think people will change jobs more often in the future?
Almost certainly, though I'd distinguish between changing employer and changing career. Changing employer has already become normal — the idea of thirty years at one company sounds almost quaint now. Changing career entirely is a different matter, because it usually means a pay cut and most people can't absorb one. So I'd expect frequent moves within a field rather than genuine reinvention, unless retraining becomes much cheaper than it currently is.
Is it better to work for a large company or a small one?
It depends what stage you're at, which I realise sounds evasive but I think is genuinely the answer. Early on, a large company teaches you what good process looks like — you see how things are supposed to be done. The trade-off is that you see a narrow slice of it. A small company gives you range much faster and no model of how to do any of it well. If I were advising someone I'd say large first, small second, though plenty of people do it the other way and turn out fine.
