Describe a time when you were late for something.
You should say
- what you were late for
- why you were late
- what happened as a result
- and explain how you felt about it
cut it fine
run late
I lost track of time
by the skin of my teeth
hold everyone up
I've never lived it down
The time I'd describe is being late for my own driving test, which I managed through a combination of overconfidence and a bus that never came. I'd allowed twenty minutes, which was fine in theory, and I'd forgotten it was a market day so the road was shut. I ended up running the last kilometre in the shoes I'd chosen for looking sensible rather than running. I arrived about six minutes late, sweating heavily, and the examiner was already writing something down, which I don't think helped. He did take me, to his credit. I failed, though not for that — I failed for a genuinely poor bit of parking about twenty minutes in. What I remember is the specific quality of that panic, which is quite unlike other kinds of stress because there's nothing you can do with it. Running doesn't help; the time has already gone. I now leave absurdly early for everything and people find it annoying.
- “There's nothing you can do with it”精确指出了这种压力的独特之处,是对感受的真正分析。
- attitudes to punctuality in different cultures
- whether modern life makes people busier
- how people manage their time badly
Describe a journey or trip that you remember well.
Describe an important decision you have made.
Describe a celebration you enjoyed.
Describe a time when you helped someone.
Describe a problem you solved.
Describe a mistake you made that you learned from.
